It's a very cute game, I'll give it that. I like the spritework for the bosses, the amount of fun references and callbacks it has to previous games, especially Mega Man 3 (one of my faves), but I can't help but feel like the Met helmet mechanic is being under-utilized throughout this game. For the 3 times I thought this game was quite clever, there are about 9 other times where I'm left saying "oh, that's it?" and the level is over. I think the worst case of this is either Ice Met or Wilet 1 and 2. The effort is there, I just feel like it could have done more interesting and unique things with the character. 7/10, pretty good.
There is that, and I also felt like the boss fights went a bit too "throw everything and the kitchen sink at the player" with their approach. This felt like trying to find justifiable uses for the Met helmet mechanic, as some boss attack patterns could be blocked but... I just decicded to dodge 99% of the time instead. If you can dodge, why block? You could block only so many times before you'd be out of guard meter. The only place where I felt like I was consciously using the Met helmet (outside of designated puzzles) was the knight boss fight during Wilet stages, and even then, only for the bow knight.
I was hoping for the game to lean more into its "main" gimmick, but as it is, it's just a few changes away from being a traditional Mega Man title. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but kind of a waste of a potentially cool mechanic. Charge buster being as good as it was not helping matters. I didn't even touch the special weapons.
Both fair comments; we decided to design the game around the shield not being forced, like eg. using too many bullet hell attacks. I imagine it also varies between players, and how well they can dodge.
But yeah, in a world where we would be making a MMt2, the shielding mechanic (player and bosses) would be the first order of business.
I went back and played around with some of the boss fights, and about 80% of the attacks used by bosses do not engage with the blocking mechanic at all. Doesn't help you in Magnet Met or Tornado Met's boss fights, the only thing you can really do is dodge.
Also it seems like most of the shield-focused mechanics were saved for the Wilet stages, which... one of them is just 3 reflecting light lazer puzzles which are always lame.
Yeah, I felt the reflectable laser puzzles kind of broke the pacing of that one level. Of course, that's the sort of issue you can potentially run into if you do dedicated puzzles to get something out of a mechanic.
Also, can I just say, I wish you'd be able to turn off the sound effect for your guard meter recharging. It's distractingly loud (as are many other sound effects, like the ice storm in Ice Met's stage, I turned sound effects down to 20% because of that).
Oh that's perfect! So I was wondering if it would be okay for me to port your game to port master. Portmaster is a tool that can be used to run games on emulation devices from the likes of anbernic and many other companies. We don't support piracy or the stealing of any games without permission from the owner and we most certainly don't take credit for the actual game we port. If I where to make a port of this game then users would just have to download and add the exe on there own but I would like to ask for permission to use the exe in my port project. I will make sure to give you credit for the game as well as include a link to your profile and your game.
if it's this screen that's windows being paranoid because it's not a program it sees a lot of people run (because it was released literally yesterday) - click More Info > Run anyway

We're not sure why that happens, if we figure it out, we'll note it in an update.
If lives get refilled up to 2 during normal stages, I think that should also happen in Wily castle.
Also "exit" at main menu should close the game, or have a button to close the game at title screen.
I keep trying to download, it’s always detected as a virus for some reason..
If it's preventing you on download, let me know, if it's doing it on trying to open the exe, you can treat it as a false positive no problem.
Will you make a Mac version?
No, unfortunately I'm not sure that's possible for us. But a few players have confirmed it works on Wine.
That's good to know. What's making it not possible for you? I might be able to help
I tried to download it, but Windows antivirus detected it as a Trojan horse.
Should be fixed hopefully. Windows Defender will still give a popup on the exe, because it's extra cautious. Game's safe.
Hey so I was wondering what game engine you used to make it and if it was game maker is the game yyc compiled?
It's gamemaker, VM compiled.

I tried downloaded it and it says virus detected. Please fix?

I think it's this thing he's referring to
If it's browser-side like here, that's something I don't have experience with, I hope there's a way to convince it it's a false positive.
it's a windows defender thing, just allow the threat in that
This lil bot is so cute
The lack of Mac support is troubling, but this still looks freakin' awesome and I'm gonna play it later. :)
only windows?
Yeah, Gamemaker export be like that
shame. i guess i'm gunna dust off my windows computer after work to play this!
I got it running on a steam deck without issue in case proton is an option for you.
